Q: What is Chiropractic?
A: Chiropractic is a non-invasive form of healthcare which focuses on proper alignment of the spine to restore normal function to the nervous system and promote overall health and wellness.
Q: How does Chiropractic work?
A: Understanding the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system is the key to understanding how chiropractic works.
The nervous system controls all muscles, joints, cells, and organs in the body. The spinal column encases the nervous system (spinal cord and nerve roots) and is responsible for its protection. When a spinal misalignment is present, it can create pressure on the enclosed nervous system in that region. A misalignment (also referred to as a Subluxation) can occur at any level of the spine from the neck down to the tailbone. This misalignment or Subluxation represents a portion of the spine (such as a vertebra) that is out of its proper position, causing nerve irritation. Nerve irritation can lead to malfunction in the body producing symptoms in the related muscles, glands, organs and tissues.
The goal of chiropractic treatment is to detect and correct spinal misalignments to relieve nerve root irritation and restore normal functioning to the affected area in the body.
