A: Chiropractic is a non-invasive form of healthcare which focuses on proper alignment of the spine to restore normal function to the nervous system and promote overall health and wellness.

Q: What is the FIRST VISIT to your office like and what SERVICES are offered?

A: Please click on the 'Patients' tab for thorough answers to this question.

Q: How does Chiropractic work?

A: Understanding the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system is the key to understanding how chiropractic works.

The nervous system controls all muscles, joints, cells, and organs in the body. The spinal column encases the nervous system (spinal cord and nerve roots) and is responsible for its protection. When a spinal misalignment is present, it can create pressure on the enclosed nervous system in that region. A misalignment (also referred to as a Subluxation) can occur at any level of the spine from the neck down to the tailbone. This misalignment or Subluxation represents a portion of the spine (such as a vertebra) that is out of its proper position, causing nerve irritation. Nerve irritation can lead to malfunction in the body producing symptoms in the related muscles, glands, organs and tissues.

The goal of chiropractic treatment is to detect and correct spinal misalignments to relieve nerve root irritation and restore normal functioning to the affected area in the body.

Q: We often hear, "I, (or my friend) has a problem with this or that. Do you treat that?"

A: As Chiropractors, what we treat is the spine, allowing it and the nervous system to work at its fullest potential. Our patients come to us with the following complaints and typically respond very well.

Sports injuries; Low back pain; Carpal Tunnel syndrome; Headaches; Neck and arm pain; Pregnancy related back pain; Sciatica; Scoliosis; Slipped or Herniated Discs; Auto Accident injuries; Whiplash injuries; Tennis Elbow; Rotator Cuff injuries; Knee and ankle instabilities; Postural deformities; ITB syndrome; Sinus and Breathing restrictions; TMJ; Wellness.

Additionally, the doctors have specific training in treatment of the extremities, so shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands, along with hips, kness, ankles and feet are also treated. Like always, the doctors are only interested in your recovery, so a referral to another specialist will be made if appropriate.

Q: Are there age restrictions to having your spine adjusted?

A: There are no age restricions as our doctors have taken care of young babies to the very elderly. Of course patients at the extremes are considered by safety first and only gentle appropriate care is rendered.

Q: What is this "WELLNESS" thing I keep hearing about?

A: Wellness seems to be this new "buzz-word" the media and some politicians are latching onto. In fact, in Chiropractic, it's not new at all. Actually, the primary tenets of Chiropractic are based on wellness. It's all about lifestyle choices. It's about natural health, exercise, and eating habits. Finally, it's about taking responsibility for your own health and well-being. At Family Chiropractic of Springfield we have an experienced team of experts who are happy to give you the guidance you need to be your best self!
